Standing at the work place is not the solution

You have heard the advice Do not keep sitting for too long at the work place a hundred times. We all know sitting for long hours causes health issues.

The answer is not standing. Standing for long hours at the work place also causes a host of health issues such as fatigue, sore feet, swollen legs, varicose veins, etc. (MNT)

Best solution to get up after every 20 minutes for 2-5 minutes. Walk around or do a few jumping jacks to avoid the health issues associated with sitting for too long. But simply standing long hours is not the solution.

Antidepressant and pain killers cause bleeding inside of head

Sugar causes physical changes in your heart

Sugar is so bad that it causes physical changes in your heart. (Heart Failure, 12 Reasons to Stop Eating Sugar Forever).

Too much fructose could make you fat

Some scientists believe that when you eat fructose laden foods such as maple syrup, agave, and corn syrup, the fructose fools your brain into believing that you are not full and so you eat even more.

Avoid fructose rich foods. Fruits do not come under this. They contain fructose but in little amounts enough to sweeten them but not cause you harm. (Sweet Poison: Why Sugar is ruining our health).

Sugar worse than salt for hypertension

Sugar plays a bigger role in worsening hypertension than salt (MedPage Today).

Drop the sugar completely. The nuisances of sugar seem to keep on piling up day by day.

Plyometrics to burn fat and increase power

Plyometrics help you lose fat and build speed and power. Traditional strength training increases muscle strength. Plyometrics prepare you to exert the maximum amount of strength in the shortest time possible.

Plyometrics strengthen your tendons and ligaments. They keep you injury free.

How many times have you heard that a soccer player got injured or a basketball player needs to undergo surgery for a ruptured tendon.

Plyometrics help strengthen your tendons and ligaments, something which traditional strength training ignores, and keeps you injury free.

Examples of plyometric exercises include

  • Squat Jumps
  • Hand clasp push ups

Squat Jumps

Drop down into the squat position fast, and then without stopping push yourself up and spring into the air.

Land on your feet and quickly drop down into the squat position again, and repeat by pushing yourself up as fast as you can and into the air.

Hand clasp pushups

Get into the pushup position and lower your body quickly to the floor.

Without stopping at the bottom position push yourself up as fast and as hard as you can so that your hands leave the floor.

Clap your hands together while you are in the air and then fall on your hands going down into the bottom of the push up position and then again push yourself up as fast and as hard as you can to repeat.

There are many other plyometric exercises you can try, but these two should be good enough to get you started.

Remember plyometrics will enable you to fight better when you need to since they will enable you to hit harder and they will allow you to run faster. They will help you survive dangerous situations.

And they will vastly improve your sports performance.

You need to drink 8 glasses of water a day

No you do not. This is a long standing medical myth.

What you need is to adjust your water intake in accordance to your circumstances so that you do not feel thirsty and your urine is colorless or light yellow. This is the best gauge to see if you are hydrated or not.

If you

  • Exercise
  • Are pregnant
  • Live in a hot country
  • Have a disease like diarrhea

Then you will need to increase your water intake to remain hydrated.

Brain Fog

Sitting long hours in front of your computer screen leads to brain fog a condition in which you forget where you put the keys, you cannot think clearly, you feel irritated, your emotions are out of control, and your productivity suffers big time.

Sugar is not bad. It is horrible

Sugar is the worst thing you can put inside yourself. Research suggests that sugar has played a role in the massive rise in diseases such as:

  • Metabolic Syndrome
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Diabetes Type 2

Sugar intake is also linked to weight gain.

Men can have up to a maximum of 9 teaspoons of sugar a day. This means you, as a male, can have up to a maximum of 150 calories from sugar.

Women are allowed 6 teaspoons or100 calories from sugar a day.

But did you forget that just one can of coke has 140 calories coming from sugar?

So if you are used to drinking a can of coke a day, then you are only left with 10 calories which you can get from sugar. The 9 teaspoon of sugars a day (maximum rule) only applies if you do not get calories from sugars present in processed (junk) foods!

Best solution: Avoid junk food and as much table sugar as you possibly can. It is about your health after all.

Is your mobile phone making you sick?

If you send over 50 text messages a day, then you have a high chance of developing De Quervain’s tenosynovitis.

Once you develop De Quervain's tenosynovitis, making a fist, picking up a glass, grasping anything, and even turning your wrist will hurt. Limit the number of text messages you send every day to avoid this painfully annoying condition!

Do not brush your teeth right after a meal

If you brush your teeth right after a meal, especially one which contained acidic food and/or drinks, you will damage your teeth.

Wait 30 minutes after you have had your meal to brush your teeth.
